SAE J2716 (SENT) to CAN Gateway

SKU #: MA-SENT-CAN

The SAE J2716 (SENT) to CAN gateway features two bi-directional SENT (Single Edge Nibble Transmission) channels, two analogue output channels, and a CAN bus interface. The interface’s flexibility allows the user to use it as a PC interface, SENT data logger, gateway for PLC or a test system, and general SENT communication monitoring and simulation. The analogue outputs offer the possibility to directly convert SENT data frame signals into an analogue voltage.

Fast, Short Serial, and Enhanced Serial message formats are supported by the SAE J2716 (SENT) to CAN gateway. The user can configure channel parameters (direction, tick time, nibble count, filtration) and store the configuration into the device’s non-volatile memory. Each SENT channel can be configured independently to suit all possible use cases: 2 RX channels / 1 RX and 1 TX channel / 2 TX channels.

SAE J2716 (SENT) to CAN Gateway FAQ’s

What are the analogue output capabilities of the SAE J2716 (SENT) to CAN Gateway?

The SAE J2716 (SENT) to CAN Gateway features two analogue output channels with 12-bit DAC (Digital-to-Analogue Converter). These channels can directly convert inbound SENT data frames into analogue voltages. Each analogue output channel can be mapped to any SENT channel. Conversion parameters like StartBit, BitLength, and linear transfer function (Multiplier, Offset, Min/Max) are fully configurable.

How does the SAE J2716 (SENT) to CAN Gateway handle incoming SENT frames to prevent overload in RS-232 or CAN communication?

The SAE J2716 (SENT) to CAN Gateway includes intelligent filtration of incoming SENT frames, ensuring that RS-232 or CAN communication channels do not become overloaded. This feature enhances reliability and efficiency in data transmission.

What configurable options does the CAN variant of the SAE J2716 (SENT) to CAN Gateway offer?

The CAN variant of the SAE J2716 (SENT) to CAN Gateway allows configurable CAN Identifiers for both transmission (TX) and reception (RX). This capability enables multiple devices to operate simultaneously on the same CAN bus, supporting complex network configurations.

Can the firmware of the SAE J2716 (SENT) to CAN Gateway be updated?

Yes, the firmware of the SAE J2716 (SENT) to CAN Gateway is upgradable from a PC, ensuring compatibility with future updates and improvements.

Is there a PC application available for configuring and monitoring the SAE J2716 (SENT) to CAN Gateway?

Yes, the "SENT Gateway Analyser" PC application is provided free of charge. It allows users to configure the SAE J2716 (SENT) to CAN Gateway, monitor communication, log data, and simulate SENT communication scenarios. This tool simplifies integration into existing systems such as test benches, HiL rigs, and End-of-Line testers.

What communication protocols are supported by the SAE J2716 (SENT) to CAN Gateway?

The SAE J2716 (SENT) to CAN Gateway supports communication protocols over RS-232 and CAN, facilitating easy integration into various systems. These protocols enable configuration of SENT and analogue channels, as well as transmission and reception of SENT Fast and Slow messages.
