Historically, legacy networks often encounter issues over time. While classical fieldbuses like CANopen, PROFIBUS, or DeviceNet were once standard, Ethernet-based bus systems now dominate. Additionally, protocol changes between fieldbuses are increasingly common.  

Replacing entire communication modules is costly and often impractical due to their integration with control circuit boards. Communication gateways, or protocol converters, address this challenge by preserving investments. They optimize data transmission by compressing compatible data for the target network, discarding unsupported data, and adding necessary information.


Modular gateway solution - Connecting different industrial networks

The modular KUNBUS Gateway series offers engineers a compact, DIN-rail mountable protocol converter designed for plug-and-play convenience. Each module, measuring just 22.5 x 101.4 x 115 mm, connects to a gateway via a jumper, enabling seamless network-to-network integration. Protocol modules can be easily swapped, allowing flexible configurations, including custom solutions. 

Equipped with an integrated web server, the gateways support program updates via FTP. With a maximum output of 3W and a voltage tolerance of -15% to +20%, they are built for reliability. This modular system minimizes stock costs, as configuration can be deferred until delivery to the customer. Simple, efficient, and adaptable—KUNBUS Gateways make integration effortless.
