PLIN-USB Adapter FAQs
Which applications are included with the PLIN-USB Adapter from PEAK?
The PLIN-USB adapter comes with PLIN-View Pro for monitoring and analysing LIN network activity on Windows and the PLIN programming interface for building custom applications to interact with LIN systems. PLIN-View Pro is a free tool that simplifies diagnostics, enhances system validation, and supports efficient troubleshooting for LIN applications.
What are some use cases of a PLIN-USB Adapter?
The PLIN-USB adapter’s versatility makes it ideal in applications including:
- Automotive Diagnostics and Control - Enables testing and diagnostics of in-vehicle communication networks, such as controlling sensors or ECUs. This is essential for automotive engineers performing tests on systems such as climate control or window lifts.
- Industrial Automation - Connects equipment such as sensors, actuators, and controllers to PC systems providing seamless monitoring and control. This optimises production line performance and data collection.
- Embedded System Development - Engineers use the PLIN-USB to develop custom applications for embedded systems that require LIN communication e.g. in devices for HVAC or lighting control.
- R&D - Enables the simulation and testing of new network configurations in real-time.
What are the benefits of using a PLIN-USB adapter?
The PLIN-USB Adapter from PEAK-System Technik offers high performance with high-speed data transfer up to 20kbps. It’s ideal for use in demanding automotive and industrial applications thanks to the adapter’s extended temperature range and capacity for galvanic isolation up to 500 V. Furthermore, configuration is made simple through automatic bit rate detection.
What are the operational requirements of the PEAK PLIN-USB adapter?
To use the PLIN-USB, the user’s computer must have a vacant USB port (USB 1.1, 2.0, or 3.0). Use of a USB extension cable is not advised as it may cause malfunctions. The computer must have a compatible Windows operating system (Windows 7, 8.1, or 10 32/64-bit). The LIN transceiver requires an additional DC voltage source of 6 to 28 V.
How do you use the PLIN-USB adapter?
To use the PLIN-USB adapter with a Windows computer, the user must first install the device driver. PLIN-View Pro is automatically added to the device as part of the installation. Upon plugging in the adapter, Windows will detect the new device. When the PLIN-USB is ready to operate, the status LED will light up in green.
