CANalarm® - entry-level bus monitoring tool for plant operators

The CANalarm is a low priced analysis tool that can be installed in the bus permanently, and is designed for the logical monitoring of CAN bus systems. This small device features two 9-pin D-Sub field bus connectors and plugs right into an existing and running CAN system. The CANalarm automatically detects the baud rate and starts to analyze the entire bus traffic independently.

As a passive bus node, it detects without interaction and continuously typical characteristics of a CAN communication and compares it with user settable trigger criteria:

  • Bus traffic load
  • Number of error frames
  • ID and content of the transmitted telegrams

Fields of applications:
  • Redundancy in safety related areas
  • Detection of faulty bus states
  • Failure Monitoring: Detection of node failures and malfunctions
  • Message Trigger: ID and / or content analysis for event-triggered alarm

The CANalarm® is an entry-level CAN bus monitoring tool for the start-up, analysis, monitoring, troubleshooting and service/maintenance of CAN bus systems:

  • Passive CAN node, supports CAN 2.0A and B (ISO 11898-2)
  • Power supply: +9 ... 32 VDC
  • Displays ID and content of transmitted CAN frames
  • Shows CAN bus load
  • Detection of faulty bus states
  • Taps directly into existing CAN cabling via dual DB-9 connectors - without the need for a PC or laptop
  • Indication of occurrence of predefined trigger criteria via status LED or potential free switching output
